Class Notes 12/18

Today we took our Chapter 4 quiz.

Because we only have more one class before break we are not going to move on to a new topic.

Tuesday is a food/movie day. please remember to bring what you said you were going to bring. I will supply the movie.

Have a great weekend.

Class Notes 12/16

Today in class we covered section 4.6 which dealt with graphing equations on the slope-intercept equation (y = mx +b).

We have a quiz on Friday covering what we've covered up to chapter 4.

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Class Notes 12/14

Today in class we spent more time working on direct variation. Their will be a quiz on Friday (12/18) covering the sections of Chapter 4 that we have already gone over (Section 4.1-4.5)

Homework Due 12/16: Read Section 4.6 (We will start this topic on Wednesday, but won't finish it until after the break)

Thursday, December 10, 2015

Class Notes 12/10

Today in class we covered section 4.5 Direct Variation. Basically Direct variation is set up in a
y= mx + b equation however there is no b (or no y-intercept) all of our graphs and equations will therefore go through the origin (0,0).

Homework Due Monday 12/14

Pg. 237 # 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 23, 24, 25, 33, 36, 37. Read Section 4.6
Quiz next Friday

Class Notes 12/8

Today in class we went over section 4.4 of the textbook. Which was finding the slope of a line. When given two points we are able to find the slope of a line without even having to look at a line. We also learned how to find a missing x or y coordinate when two ordered pairs and the slope is given. We looked at a real life example (parachuting, rate of change). We then spent the rest of class doing a handout where we practiced how to find the slope and the missing coordinate.

Homework Due 12/10: Finding the Slope Handout. Read section 4.5

Friday, December 4, 2015

Class Notes 11/4

Today in class we went over section 4.3, which was finding out how to graph equations by finding the x and y intercepts.

For homework Due 12/8: Finish the packets (don't do the word problems), Read section 4.4

Monday, November 30, 2015

Class Notes 11/30

Today in class we went over the class test that you took right before the break. The test overall was really good.

After the test we went we then started chapter 4, which starts with Scatter Plots. I don't want to spend to much time on this section, but I thought it was an appropriate lead in to graphing equations.

Scatter plots use Quadrant 1, and it plots two quantitative variables. For instance height vs weight. We also looked at a couple examples where we looked at snowmobile sales and ski equipment sales over a set amount of years.

Homework: pg 206 #11-19 ODD, 27,28,29. Read Section 4.2

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Class notes 11/19

Today in class we took our chapter 3 test.

Homework: Enjoy your holiday break. Our next class we start the next chapter.

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Class Notes 11/17

There was no class today. Instead the students took the AMC test.

Our Chapter 3 test will be Thursday. If you have questions come see before then.

Today in class we covered section 3.8 which dealt with rates and ratios. We went over some examples. After we had finished the examples we took some time to practice for the AMC exam that will be administered next Tuesday.

For homework: Due 11/13: handout on rates and ratios

Sunday, November 8, 2015

Class Notes 11/6

Today in class we went over the rest of section 3.7. We worked on solving equations that had many variables and were asked to solve for one of the variables. After that we did some in class work together working on function tables and and word problems that deal with function tables.

Homework due Tuesday 11/10: Read section 3.8, we will start that section on Tuesday.

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Class Notes 11/4

Today in class we started going over section 3.7 which deals with formulas, functions, and how to solve an equation with two variables. We also looked at who we can create Function Tables to solve for different values of a variable.

For Homework due 11/6: page 177 #11-14, 16-20 all. For each question Rewrite the formula so that y is a function of x and then create a function table for the values x = -4, -2, 0, 2.

Monday, November 2, 2015

Class Notes 11/2

Today in class we went over last weeks quiz and then spent the rest of class working on section 3.6 which is solving equations with decimals.

Homework due 11/4: Finish the packets that you worked on in class.

Thursday, October 29, 2015

Class Notes 10/29

Today in class we did a brief review session, and then we spent the rest of the class taking our second quiz of the quarter.

For homework: Due 11/2 please read section 3.6 (pages 166-168). We will start the new section on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Schroth

Class Notes 10/27

I apologize for the delay in getting this posted. I wrote this out the other day and forgot to publish the post.

There will be a quiz 10/29. The quiz will cover equations with a variable on both sides and solving for the variable and will have word problems that are break even questions.

Before the quiz we will have a quick review where you can ask me questions that you may have.

See you all Thursday.

Mr. Schroth

Monday, October 19, 2015

Class Notes 10/19

Today in class we worked on some break even equations. These are word problems where we are asked to solve for an unknown variable, so that both sides of the equation will be equal. We did a couple examples on the board and then the class started a worksheet.

For homework Due 10/21: Finish the worksheet

Class Notes 9/15

Today in class I had the opportunity to actually have my students in my class for the first time after the split last week. As a class we went over a few different things. Even though the students had gotten a syllabus from Ms. Smith's class I felt that it was necessary to give them a syllabus for my class. We went over the syllabus and also went over classroom expectations. We also did a quick intro around the room so the students could get to know me and I could get to know them. After all that was accomplished we spent the rest of class doing group work and then working out problems on the board.

Homework due Wed 9/17:
Signed Syallbus
Log into Khan Academy and work on the Two Step Equations Intro section that I mentioned. This will help lead into the next section that we will cover.

Monday, September 14, 2015

Class notes 9/10

Today the split of Ms. Smith's large 7th grade algebra class took place and half of the students found out they would be coming to my class from now on. Even though the split happened Ms. Smith and I kept the two classes together for the day and we took the students to the computer room in the library and helped the students set up their Khan Academy accounts which we will be working with all year.

The assigned homework:
pg 19 #3, 13-37 odd and 42.
Also pleas get used to signing into your Khan Academy account at home and get used to the site.

See you all in the next class,
Mr. Schroth
