Class Notes 10/31

Today in class we continued our coverage with graphing. Today we went over how you can find the x and y intercepts in order to plot two points and then graph. We also saw some real life examples. One example dealt with a school play and the prices to charge a child and adult and what the graph means in context of the question. That briefly led to a discussion on inequalities which we will cover next unit.

After the lesson the students got some practice finding intercepts and graphing based of the those results.

Homework due Wednesday 11/2: pg. 221 #21, 29, 35-37, 41-43, 60-63.
                                                    Read section 4-4

Class Notes 10/27

Today in class we started our coverage of Chapter 4. We went over scatter plots and how to plot points on an xy coordinate plane. We also covered section 4-2, which was how to graph linear equations and what the graph of an equation represents (all the solutions to an equation).

Homework due Mon. 10/31: pg. 206 # 19, 20, 27, 28, 29, 30
                                             pg. 214 #15, 16, 21, 22, 30, 31, 36, 37
                                             Read 4-3

Class Notes 10/17

Today we covered section 3.8. After the brief lesson we did some group work trying to convert to unit rates.

There will be a chapter 3 test on Friday 10/21:

Class Notes 10/13

Today in class we started our coverage on Functions and Formulas. We will be dealing with equations involving more than one variable. This unit is meant to help us recognize ways in which to work with functions and formulas.

We learned about the difference between and input and output. We also learned that what it means when we say something like "x as a function of y" (this means that the value of x depends on the value of y).

We went over examples of formulas like area, and the conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

Homework due Monday 10/17: page 177 #11-29 odds.

Class Notes 10/6

Today in class the students worked individually on solving word problems and trying to create linear equations from the information in the problem. Along with solving the process I asked the students to write down their process as they attempted the problem. What thoughts did they have as they started the problem. Did they try something and then have to change their strategy. Things of that nature. We are going to gets lots of practice this year writing and talking about math and not just solving problems.

Homework due Thursday 10/13: PG 164 #22-26. You are to write out paragraphs explaining your process for problems 22-26.

Class Notes 10/4

Today in class we worked on section 3.5 which is translating word problems into algebraic equations. In class we looked at three different examples and how we can use graphs, charts or drawings to help check our answers.

After the lesson the class worked in groups trying to solve word problems.

Homework due 10/6: Page 164 #13-18 (all).
